Birchbark Rectangle Necklace (Solid back)
White birch (Betula papyrifera) trees are found all across Canada. Birchbark has a long and storied history in Canada, and the birchbark canoe has played an instrumental role in shaping the landscape of Canada. Lightweight, yet strong and impervious, Indigenous peoples utilized birchbark for various other uses ranging from shelter, to baskets, to artwork.
The birch tree symbolizes growth, renewal, and stability and the promise of what is yet to come.
All of the birchbark used in the creation of this jewellery was responsibly sourced from trees that were already fallen. It was collected from Treaty 10 Territory or Treaty 6 Territory and the Homeland of the Métis. We pay our respect to the First Nations and Métis ancestors.
Birchbark embedded in resin on a rectangle pendant. Because no two pieces of birchbark are exactly alike, some pieces are darker while others are lighter.
Available on a 30 inch antique bronze chain or red copper chain.
