Winter Vetch (Vicia villosa) is a plant that is found in most Canadian provinces.
It is a legume which can be grown as a forage crop for grazing livestock. It is also used by organic growers because it is both winter tolerant and can fix atmospheric nitrogen, acting as mulch that preserves moisture and keeps weeds down. 

When in bloom, Winter vetch displays delightful purple flowers. We especially admire its delicate (almost palm-like) leaves that can be fashioned into resin jewellery.
